Abstract

Within the Mediterranean basin, Morocco is a country with a high diversity of ants; however, several new taxa are still being reported for the country. Four additional species have been discovered (Aphaenogaster splendida (Roger, 1859), Goniomma kugleri Espadaler, 1986, Temnothorax longipilosus (Santschi, 1912) and Lasius turcicus Santschi, 1921). G. kugleri and L. turcicus are mentioned for the first time for continental Africa. The ant fauna of Morocco now includes 242 species. Interesting additional information about the natural history and distribution of other taxa is presented.
